The past few weeks have been a little up and down to say the least. In all honesty though, I think it may have all seemed a little tougher given that usually we don’t tend to have a lot of ‘drama’ and life is normally all good. By no means am I boasting, just trying to look at things positively and realise that we’re pretty lucky most of the time. In light of that, I thought I’d note down a few things making me smile this week.
Okay, so the rain hasn’t exactly made this as good as it could be, but how lovely has it been to not be dark at 5pm?! The promise of barbecues, watering plants and paddling pools is on the horizon and I cannot wait to be out in the garden, embracing warmer weather and laughing at Daisy, who will likely be naked and looking slightly feral most evenings.
I go through phases of reading; either I struggle to get past the first chapter of anything, or I devour one book after another. Months pass between the phases, but I’m definitely in the ‘reading at every chance I get’ camp at the moment. It has always helped me to nod off to sleep and with the amount of disturbed nights I’ve had recently, it’s definitely proved better than browsing Instagram at 3am. I’m currently reading Dan Brown’s Origin, although I’m normally a grisly thriller kinda gal.
I’ve blogged before about how active this little one is, but it’s really been making me smile recently. Whenever things are a little stressful or it’s just been one of those days, taking five minutes to feel and watch all those movements instantly perks me up. Every time I see my bump wriggle or feel kicks and prods, I feel incredibly lucky and in awe of how amazing the human body really is. Like, there’s a real little person in there!
Hot Cross Buns
As much as I love hot cross buns, I’m pretty sure my hips will be glad to see the back of Easter. I’ve become something of a connoisseur the last few weeks; Jon has been bringing me home all the ‘special’ flavours he’s come across. ‘Blueberry and Maple’, ‘Extra Fruity’, ‘Apple and Cinnamon’, ‘Chocolate and Fudge’… I could continue but I’m starting to salivate and I don’t want to drool on the laptop. By this point, I’m 90% hot cross bun and I fear I’ll need to wean myself off them. I can confirm though, M&S Salted Caramel and Chocolate are the best…mmm…
I’ve previously mentioned how much Daisy’s speech has come on in the last year and now we quite literally can’t shut her up! It’s true what they say, kids really do say the funniest things. Daisy has loved singing songs for a while now and picks nursery rhymes up so quickly. She’s regularly coming out with a verse or two of something she’s heard at school or on TV, but this week she literally made my heart burst. Sat on the settee together, she started singing ‘Rockabye Baby’ and told me she’s going to sing it to the baby! Apparently she learnt it in school and it’s THE cutest thing ever. All the mama feels!
